Shoe and boot longevity

Submitted By: Fred Date: Jan 30, 2024, 01:51 PM Views: 177
Summary: In my hands free shoe review I mentioned testing the longevity on them. I may have called it durability.

About 2 years or so ago or could even be 3 years ago. I started a spread sheet to try and keep track of how many miles I put on each shoe or boot. It is not as accurate as I want it but it should be close. At least I will get an idea of which shoes and boots will last longer than others and I can in turn let you all know and it can hopefully help you make a informed buying decisions for now and into the future.

While using this spread sheet I did find that shoes fail between 50 to 100 miles. Like I had a pair of golden fox that failed around that mark. Now granted this was a discontinued model from golden fox but I was not impressed. Maybe the current models will last longer and based on some info I found on youtbue I think the other models will last longer. But I have not personally tested the other models. I do not know if I will. Anyway a few others that failed between that were some really cheap ones from Temu and wish so maybe not the best place to get shoes from. Although there are other reasons not to buy from those sites or sites like them. So some searching on them before buying and see what I mean. I may even make my own article about them at some point.

Right now my Red wings, well Irish setter red wings are the boots that have the most wear as they are close to the 300 mile mark. Now with these I had them before the spread sheet was created so had to guess on the amount of miles before the spread sheet. I know when I first got those boots I wear them for 3 months in a row. As I go about 2 to 3 miles on a daily basis I calculated that to be any where from 180 miles to 270 miles. I also know I used them after that for maybe a month or possibly more. So I just put the guess at about 250 or there about. So I know the guess could be a bit off. However I know it is well over 200 miles as 180 would be the lowest it could be. I didn't have a whole lot of boots before the spread sheet so the rest were not as hard to guess.

I should also mention I think a good pair of boots or shoes should last at least 1000 miles. If they do not last that long, I do not think they are worth it. Hopefully the hands free shoes I am testing will last longer but for the kiziks my guess is no at least for the older model of kiziks that I am testing. We will see. Hopefully it does not take me too long to test them. I may even go for walks to make the test go faster but it needs to be nice out before I can do that.  See the article on hands free shoes. I also plan on making a video for those at some point. I now have each pair up to 50 miles so want to also take pictures of the soles to show you so keep an eye out for that.
