Barefoot shoes are a huge thing right now. They also some times get put in with minimalist shoes which is a subject in it self. I have tried only 3 brands of barefoot shoes. Xero shoes, splay shoes, and jim green. I like both splay and Jim green the best as the Xero shoes seem to be a bit narrow in the middle of the foot. Xero shoes ![]() I will give a few words about Xero shoes as this is a review. I found them back in 2020 after seeing ads for them on facebook. I thought on these are neat so bought them. The first pair was really tight on my foot. I contacted support and they were very nice and I got a second pair that fit fine except for some minor issue with not being wide in the middle of the foot. Which is not that big of a deal as they stretch. They have plenty of room in the toe area though and in the heel. I also found that they can not be warn in the winter so I only wear them in the summer. I also found if you wear them with pants some times the pants go under the heel of the shoe. I know what you maybe thinking why not wear shorter pants. Oh I could but I remember middle school and high school and if you pants were too short or rolled up you got made fun of and that still runs through my mind. Over all I do like these shoes. Splay shoes ![]() Next are the splay shoes which I got on sale and I love them. These are like one of the most comfortable shoes I have ever warn and to my surprise I didn't have the issue of the pants going under the heel like on the xero shoes. Not sure why but that is a place. I did have the minor issue of them not being wide enough in the middle of the shoe like the xero shoes but after a few minutes you could not feel it. Not sure why so many shoes are narrow in the middle of the foot as that is close to the widest part of the foot at least for me it is. Anyway these have plenty of room in the toe area and are a joy to wear. The issue with lots of shoes in the middle of the foot ![]() For reference here is a pictures I found via google that shows a good picture of the foot. See where it has the Tuberosity of fifth metatarsal labeled. On my foot that sticks out making right there the widest part and that is normally where most shoes are too narrow, like 95% or maybe 90% of all shoes in the world. Even though I mentioned this issue with both xero and splay, xero being the worst. They are still not bad and do not cause any pain in the Tuberosity of fifth metatarsal as some shoes do. So it is not a major issue just a minor one and the splay only needed a few minutes of break in before I was no longer able to feel the pressure on the Tuberosity of fifth metatarsal . I already have a whole review on here about Jim green so will just say that I like the barefoot shoes Jim green makes and they fix the issue mentioned in that review. |
